Oldcastle Inc. Contributes $1 Million to Hurricane Relief Efforts

Oldcastle employees help those in need through a generous donation to the American Red Cross

ATLANTA (October 19, 2005) - Oldcastle Inc., a leading construction and building materials company, donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts. The gift was the combined result of employee donations and a dollar-for-dollar company match.

"The enormous scale of the disaster in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast was devastating and affected so many, including some Oldcastle families," said Joe McCullough, CEO, Oldcastle Products and Distribution. "Since we could only provide limited aid on the ground, we chose to help by marshaling resources to assist our fellow Americans."

Oldcastle Inc. established the Oldcastle Hurricane Fund for employee donations and began collecting monetary gifts on September 1, 2005, matching dollar for dollar all contributions.

Employees from Oldcastle's five product groups worked together to collect over $480,000, which was matched to create the $1 million total. Employees devised creative ways to generate extra money, including garage and bake sales, and many donated vacation time, cashing in more than 5,000 hours. Two children of an employee started a "Nickels for New Orleans" campaign to raise funds.

"We were heartened by employee enthusiasm and participation in the donation program, and as a result of the overwhelming response, extended the initial deadline," said McCullough. "Oldcastle has a wonderful group of employees and this contribution would not have been possible without their generosity."

This donation is another effort by the company to support the communities in which they live and work. Oldcastle is actively involved in Congress Build America, an initiative between Habitat for Humanity, Congress, Department of Housing and Urban Development and corporate and non-profit sponsors. Along with monetary donations, Oldcastle serves as the only building materials supplier to support this organization.

Oldcastle Inc. is the North American subsidiary of Irish based CRH plc, a multinational producer of construction materials and building products. Oldcastle is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and has operations across 48 states and 4 Canadian provinces with more than 30,000 employees.
